Extension to a family home near Kinningars Park, Bo'ness

Our clients detached home is positioned overlooking Kinningars Park, in Bo'ness. A green field open space area with large stone landmark, of a late 17th century, believed to be a dovecot once belonging to Old Grange House. The structure later served as the housing for the winding engine of a nearby mining shaft within the 18th to 19th century. The park land is surrounded by mature specimen trees which provides an attractive outlook from the house frontage.

Our vision was to create a large family area to the rear of the ground floor plan, accessing directly into our clients private garden, providing ample circulation space for regularly entertaining family and friends.

We designed a large open plan kitchen, dining with sitting area featuring a log burning stove providing a new central hub to their family home. The informal sitting area accentuated by a feature combed area of the new ceiling fitted with ‘Velux’ rooflights.

The new exterior design encompassed elements of the existing build, such as the stepped brickwork to the eaves line and coloured brick feature banding. In addition, a circular feature window to the rear elevation adds interest and an element of fun to the first floor children’s bedroom.

The new utility/boot room provides sufficient storage with the relocation of the existing cloak room away from the entrance hallway, to the rear of the property, with additional shower facility, ensuring the separate utility access away from the feature bi-fold doors serving the entertaining patio zone.
