Redesign of Existing Sandstone Cottage at Strawberry Bank, Linlithgow
The existing cottage was single storey with a partial attic conversion in the form of a ‘box’ dormer, providing a single room and en-suite. The brief from our clients, to maximise the first floor attic space with additional bedrooms and washroom facilities and provide maximum natural day light.
The rear cottage style garden to the property, was elevated, with a natural stone stepped access, with a vast array of well maintained planting. We looked to incorporate views over the garden within the design, providing view points from the rear of the extension, as being a personal and attractive outlook, as our clients are such keen gardeners.
Site constraints included, the adjoining residential homes, to each gable, and the only means of access to the rear garden area, during the construction works, was by way of the existing integral garage.
The final design provided; new a breakfast room, utility and cloak room to the ground floor layout, with two additional bedrooms, bathroom and feature window with corner window detailing to upper floor Landing.
The new external treatments have respected the original build with sandstone walls, slated roofs, timber sash and case windows and retaining of the existing front entrance porch to mirror the new pitched roof design of the triple dormers to the raised roof line.
The end result is a beautifully furnished, spacious family home, where our clients can welcome and entertain their own family and friends.
